WADA takes RUSADA case to CAS

The WADA decision on RUSADA is subject to appeal at CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport). The appeals process can be expected to be resolved by CAS first in late March/early April 2020 and no sanctions will be imposed on Russia until the CAS decision has been published.

The IOF Council has discussed the WADA decision, and the potential consequences for the IOF, at its meeting in Frankfurt, in preparation for any decisions.

Considering the WADA recommendations, if they are upheld by CAS;

  • Russia would not be allowed to apply to organise any IOF senior World Championships events in any disciplines.
  • the 3 European Championships events scheduled to be held in Russia, i.e. European Ski Orienteering Championships 2020, European Orienteering Championships 2021 and the European MTB Orienteering Championships 2021 are not affected and will go on as planned.
  • age category events such as Junior World Championships and World Masters Championships would not be affected.

The World University Orienteering Championships in Russia in 2020 are not within the jurisdiction of the IOF and any information about the event will come from FISU.
