Ski Orienteering has been approved as part of the compulsory programme of the FISU World University Games from 2027.
The FISU Executive Committee took the decision at its meeting on November 6th and Ski Orienteering is now, together with Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Cross Country Skiing, Curling, Figure Skating, Freestyle Skiing, Ice Hockey, Short Track and Snowboard, part of the Winter Universiade compulsory sports programme.
– It is a great result of teamwork and significantly improves the realization of our Olympic ambition, says IOF President Leho Haldna.
Ski Orienteering was included as an optional sport at the last World Universade held in Krasnoyarsk, Russia in 2019, and also in the next Winter Universiade in Lucerne, Switzerland, recently postponed to December 2021.
– I would like to thank FISU for very good cooperation over the years and wish all the best for the future, says Haldna.
