MTBO: Foliforova and Pökälä lead in CX80 MTBO World Cup

The names heading the CX80 MTBO World Cup standings are Russian athlete Svetlana Foliforova and Finn Samuel Pökälä, both with two wins each from the four individual races of the World Championships.

27-year-old Foliforova (née Poverina) has enjoyed her best results ever in these championships, with victory in Mass Start and Middle and silver medal in Sprint. She leads the standings by 8 points. Finland’s Marika Hara, gold medallist in the Sprint and bronze in Middle and Long, takes second place and the Dane Camilla Søgaard, Long Distance winner is third, with 42 points fewer than Hara.

Pökälä had a lead of 12 points over the Swiss rider Simon Braendli after winning the Mass Start and Middle races and just missing a medal in the Long. Braendli ended with two silver individual medals and one bronze. Third place is held by the Finn Andre Haga, Long Distance winner, and Sprint gold medallist Krystof Bogar, Czech Republic is fourth.

The CX80 MTBO World Cup Final round (doubling as the European MTBO Championships) is in Abrantes, Portugal from 7th to 10th October.
