Updated IOF Event news

The Covid-19 pandemic continues to cause changes in the program of IOF Major Events for 2021. As the summer season approaches a number of decisions have been made by organisers and the IOF regarding events scheduled for 2021.

Earlier this week we have communicated about the postponement of the World Trail Orienteering Championships (WTOC) to 2022, the go-ahead for the European Orienteering Championships and World Cup (EOC) in 3 weeks time, and the hopes that the World Masters Orienteering Championships (WMOC) in August can go ahead as planned.

Here are some further event news from the past few days:

  • The organisers of the North American Orienteering Championships (NAOC) 2021 in the USA have announced that the event will not be organised this year, due to travel restrictions and Covid-19 issues. The event is postponed until 2023, with preliminary dates July 28 – 31, 2023.
  • The IOF Council has determined that the European MTB Orienteering Championships (EMTBOC) 2021, scheduled to be held in Russia in August, cannot go ahead due to difficulties in creating a Covid-19 safe concept for the event. The EMTBOC and European Junior and Youth MTB Orienteering Championships in Russia are therefore cancelled.
  • The organisers and regional authorities in Turkey have requested that the Junior World Orienteering Championships (JWOC) 2021 be postponed from July to new dates in September 2021. The July dates are no longer possible due to planning difficulties caused by the pandemic. The new dates will be confirmed next week.

In an information meeting with IOF members today an overview of the current status of events in 2021 was presented and can be found here. (Events info 23 April 2021)
