Norwegian Broadcaster NRK and the IOF sign 3-year TV agreement

The IOF and Norwegian Public Broadcaster NRK have signed an agreement for the 3-year period 2021 – 2023 regarding the broadcasting of TV productions from the World Orienteering Championships and the European Orienteering Championships.

For 2021 this means that NRK will broadcast live from both the European Orienteering Championships in Switzerland May 13-16 and the Nokian Tyres World Orienteering Championships in the Czech Republic July 3-9.

The 3-year agreement also includes options for NRK to broadcast from IOF Orienteering World Cup events when scheduling allows. In addition, the parties have agreed to work together on the development of TV productions for orienteering. This work is planned to be done together with Swedish Public Broadcaster SVT based upon a similar long-term agreement signed between the IOF and SVT previously.

“We have been working towards this agreement since the successful broadcasts from the world orienteering championships 2019 in Norway”, comments IOF Secretary General/CEO Tom Hollowell. “Of course the Covid-19 pandemic has delayed everything by a year, and we feel pride in the fact that NRK has maintained their interest and that we can announce this longer-term agreement. This is an important agreement for the visibility of orienteering in Norway, but also for the IOF to be able to take advantage of the enormous experience in developing sports productions that NRK and SVT possess.”

Head of Sports in NRK Egil Sundvor, is satisfied to have reached a new agreement, “In recent years, orienteering has proven to be an exciting TV product. The 2019 world championship in Norway was a success, and we are happy to deliver new TV moments in the coming years”.
