First ETOC golds to Finland and Russia

Antti Rusanen, Finland and Pavel Shmatov, Russia are the gold medallists in PreO in the European TrailO Championships after a very tight day of competition in hot, sunny weather in Slovakia.

The Open class results today were quite remarkable: as many as 24 competitors went round the course without error! So everything was down to the timed controls, and as on Day 1 Antti Rusanen was sharpest, taking 27 seconds today for the six tasks. The top six in today’s results all completed the timed controls without error in less than a minute. Krešo Keresteš, Slovenia, tenth today, took the silver medal; he and Rusanen both completed both days’ courses without error.

The winner of the Paralympic class today was Pavel Shmatov, Russia with 1 mistake on the course plus 122 seconds at the timed stations. This combined with third place on Day 1 was good enough for the gold medal. Jana Kostová’s fourth place today brought her up to the silver medal position.

Tomorrow is Relay day at Castle Devín, and another hot and sunny day is promised.
